Harker Herald
Rolf Harris’ iconic catchphrase “Can you tell what it is yet?” captures the spirit of my work perfectly although I have a different objective to the multi-talented aussie. In Nude_14962, like most of my work, the image is heavily distorted. As no painting or indeed photograph ever resembles perfectly its subject why is the success or not of a painting decided by a resemblance of its subject? Why do we ever have to be able to tell what it is yet? Why not simply enjoy the painting for what it is?
During August while Nude_14962 occupies the Harker Herald billboard I will cover the entire length of the Hanging Wall in canvas and start to paint on it. Visitors are invited to bring along images for me to interpret. Visitors are also invited to discuss my practice, my work, the Hanging Wall painting or just chat about art in general.
Normally I just disappear into my studio and paint without any reference to the outside world or the input of others, this is an attempt to open up my practice and my painting process. I will also open my to studio to any one who wishes to visit. All are welcome to see more of my work and perhaps discuss my previous work and whether or not we ‘Can tell what it is yet’.
